University Hospital Monklands

Since early 2021, Hirsts have been working closely with the Design Team to develop the design for the replacement University Hospital Monklands on a greenfield site in Airdrie.  This healthcare village extends over an area of more than 44 hectares and occupies an enviable position on the edge of the community within in a rural environment.  This pastoral landscape has been our inspiration and planning the site, the detailed design and every aspect of the external works has been aimed at integrating the facility within its established environment.  Soft landscaping and the sense of wellbeing it instils permeates the grounds and infiltrates the building through the numerous courtyards and gardens which have been woven into the fabric of the building.

The hospital will be a state-of-the-art digital facility with sustainable zero carbon credentials.  Biodiversity net gain has been an important consideration given the greenfield status of the site.  The Hospital design continues to evolve in anticipation of an anticipated opening in 2031.  The following link will take you to a short animation we have created to provide an overall impression of the scale and quality of the endeavour.
