NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde appointed Hirst Landscape Architects to take the lead to upgrade the Courtyards within the Skye House Adolescent Unit at Stobhill Hospital. HLA produced vibrant and dynamic designs for the external spaces and created a range of spaces for various activities, relaxation and reflection. The landscape design enhanced the existing planting, wildlife, and biodiversity which in turn helped amplify the experience and wellbeing of patients and staff. The design incorporated a variety of different materials to demarcate the various activity areas and provide an interesting sensory experience. This paired with sensory plants and cocooned seating areas manages to create an overall therapeutic space for users. The proposals were developed in detail following consultations and discussions with the Client group. HLA oversaw the project during the construction stage, and it was completed by Luddon Construction Ltd in the Summer of 2022.
