Background
This project comprised a number of public realm improvements along the main street through the town centre, to reinforce its status as a tourist gateway for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Hirst Landscape Architects developed a masterplan to allow work to be implemented in phases, suiting budget programming and to help manage ongoing disruption to residents and businesses.
The project encompassed the creation of a new public square in the centre of the village, with new street lighting, paving, parking and signage following in subsequent phases. Key to the success of the scheme is the use of locally quarried stone to form the walls that help to unify the different spaces, providing screening and visual containment as well as character and continuity throughout.
