Background
Retained by BAM Construction, Hirst Landscape Architects worked closely with the Architects, Gauldie Wright and Partners to inform the development of this specialist CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) facility. The building is situated within the established estate policies of the original facility which was housed in a traditional Victorian villa. Its form, position, orientation and elevation were all therefore highly sensitive and it was essential to minimise the impact upon the existing woodland resource. The building now sits within a restful landscape setting as befitting such a facility.
In addition to addressing the immediate surrounds to the building, we designed a secure internal courtyard to provide a range of opportunities for both active and passive recreation. We also worked closely with a local artist to integrate both visual and aural installations throughout the external works.
