Crosslet House Care Home, Dumbarton
Provision of a new facility providing 90 beds for the elderly, replacing 6 existing Residential Care Homes and 4 Daycare Centres.
The new building is located within the gardens and grounds of the original Crosslet House, a Victorian villa set in its own extensive wooded policies. Maintaining the parkland setting was an important consideration during the design of the layout, ensuring that as much of the accommodation as was possible benefitted from available views and the restful sense of wellbeing afforded by the setting.
The configuration of the building created a series of external courtyard garden spaces which had to be individually secure, whilst benefiting by their association with the wider landscape. Aside from the design of the garden areas to cater for residents with dementia, HLA’s major contribution was the integration of the facility within mature estate policies and the mitigation of the impact of construction on the woodland resource.
